David Banach believe that all people are "absolute individuals" and that basically means that everyone is completely independent. I kind of believe that statement and kind of don't because it matters who the person really is and their background. I kind of don't believe that statement because certain families beliefs. Some families believe that makes it hard for one to be independent. Also it depends on religion because we as people are viewed to be one big family and to help and care for each others. and basically that means that we depend on one another. The reason why i believe this statement because in certain cultures being independent is a form of power and strengths and form knowledge because you were able to survive on your own.
Basically having "absolute freedom" and being and "absolute individual" gives you the freedom to make more independent choices. "Human flourishing" is the growth of a individual's mind and the "human happiness" is the growth of ones happiness. The Ethics or code of action that makes individuality seriously is basically you being able to live and survive through life on your own.
The point of Banach's lecture is confusing to me because he talks like an illusion and that's confusing because illusions make sense but then don't.
I don't believe that Banach is right because if we were alone in this world we wouldn't ever have family or even friends. to me there are no repercussions because I believe Banach is wrong

It was good how when you disagreed with Banach's statement you you backed it up with a thoughtful response and didn't just say..."i disagree". It was interesting how instead of using full quotes you just used a certain statement or category... for example : absolute individuals and absolute freedom, it seemed a lot more powerful then if you would have used a whole quote.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your blog it was clear that one of your main point was that you disagreed with Banach's opinion and that you thought it wasn't possable to be an absolute individual because you believe that everyone is considered family.
Your blog connects to a lot of what i have been taught in the past. I don't agree with it but in church it is taught that everyone is one and that we are all connected in some way. Everyone's opinion is different so there is no right or wrong idea about this topic.
Reading through your blog i found grammar mistakes and punctuation mistakes so just reread over your work once your done. You should expand your idea's a little more by using more evidence from the text and then explaining why you disagree with that certain quote.
After reading "Also it depends on religion because we as people are viewed to be one big family and to help and care for each others. and basically that means that we depend on one another", it brought the whole concept of religion into the picture because different religions believe in different things so depending on what you believe in our whole perspective can be changed.
I enjoyed your blog and the new idea you brought up for me, can't wait to read your next blog.
I think its really cool how you start off explaining what you believe in and how it connects to Banach's ideas.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you say that your viewes and belifs make a difference when it comes to the ideas that Banach is expressing. WHy do you think there are so many sides to Banach's belifs? Why?
Is this something new or has the idea of being individuals (mentally) been brough up to you before. I think that it it interesing how you say that Banach seems to talk like there is an illusion.
I find myself thinking that when Bancah says we have "absolute freedom" he means that we are completely free, in the sense that we are also alone. What do you think?
I think you post is interesting. You bring up some great thoughs.
Hmm. I like the way you started off with your own ideas. Putting your interpretations before what it might actually mean. It was also interesting to read that, you disagreed but also agreed with you ideas.
ReplyDeleteBut... i never actually thought about what could alter you prospective of Banachs' ideas. Coming to the conclusion that religion and family can change what he claims to be an a"absolute individual" is a very interesting point.
I do have to disagree with you though; I don't think he means that you a literally alone; maybe mentally. That's what i believe, i understand him saying that we are who we are. We are the only people who will understand US. Family can see the sad face;but we are the only ones who feel that sadness.
You always question the questionable richie; i really like this posting. Due to the fact that you bring out a whole new idea that i had yet to see. =] [[kiiki]
