The Stranger

The book Stranger is a good book. In my other blog I already explain how I feel about how I felt when I read this book. Also how the main characters/ Meursault acts as a person. Throughout the book there are so many interesting things that I found in the Stranger.
I have noticed a couple of things about Meursault. Even though he has barely shown any emotions towards anything he has felt some emotion but kept it to himself. Like the way he explains about Marie he do not show to her. He made it seem that love is a whatever thing with them two. But when he met Raymond’s friend Masson and Marie met Masson’s wife he saw that they were laughing and having fun and he said on page50, “For the first time maybe, I really thought I was going to get married”. He tries to hold his emotions within for some reason but he cares about Marie.
One thing that really shocked me was how he shot the Arab. Even though he do not have a care about life or at least acts like it I never really thought about him shooting the Arab. And when he talks about the situations he acts as if he shows no interest in what he did. He does not even believe in God. He’s not into religion or life or anything. Everyone feels some emotion but he just hides it.
I really like the book and Meursault himself even though I feel a certain way when I read about him. I’ve learned alittle while reading and experience some emotion change but overall I like the book. It was very interesting.

Who is This Guy?

The book so far is good. I like it. But the main character Meursault to me has no emotion at all. Like in the beginning of the book Meursault”s mother died at he really did not have any emotion towards the fact that she is dead. He did not even want to see her at the funeral. If I found out that my own mother died I really do not know what I would do. I would be so depressed. I would cry so much I really do not know how I would stop. Meursault did not even cry. He did not even show that he was somewhat sad. I feel that no one in this world should feel like that or act like that. I feel people should have emotion for anything. I believe that if everyone act the way Meursault do then what’s the point of living if no one has any emotion for anything. Feeling numb for the rest of your life is no point of living if you can’t feel anything..
Now ever since the beginning of the book since he showed no emotion towards anything I read throughout the book with no emotion. Trying to get into character while reading I feel I should read with no emotion. And reading this book is frustrating me because when reading and trying to get into character all of a sudden I feel like the way he acts. I feel like I have no emotion right that second. Or I feel like I have no care for anything.
Overall the book is good and I like it but hate reading it because of how the character acts throughout the book.

Do We Live In a World That is Meaningful and Make Sense

Do we live in a world that is meaningful and makes sense? Me personally I do not know myself. I feel that we do live in a world that is meaningful and makes sense but in this world today there are too many beliefs today about life that makes me wonder. Questions like what’s the point of life, or why do we live, etc. Life has been questioned in so many ways.
It kind of depends on the person and what they believe if you are looking through others perspective. Something that I think is meaningful or make sense others might disagree with me. Also it depends on moments and the events that happens in life. Like for example some people do not know why people die or even know what’s the point of death itself. People death do not make sense to others. People even sometimes question their own selves. Tommy’s girlfriend ask “if nothing matters, how can I matter?” to me she believes that this world has no meaning so what’s the point of living. Tommy himself said “Once you realize the universe sucks, you got nothing left to lose”. By him saying that he believes that there is no point of living when you realize that.
Me, I believe we do live in a meaningful world that makes sense because I feel that as we grow we learn so much in life in order to survive or even learn who we really are as people and develop more as a person. Also if we are doing something successful then that makes sense on what’s the point of living. Help provide support for others. People believe that we are connected in life. That we are not alone. Bernard said “Everything is the same, even if it’s different”. To me that’s saying that everyone and everything is the same.
I feel that we do live in a world that is meaningful and makes sense but others mighht not agree so it depends on the person’s perspective in life.

Hw#3 Comment Jacara

I like how you started your blog and explaining about happiness and how not everyone has happiness. You also back up your argument and connected yourself and said how "Something that makes me happy might not make someone else happy and vice versa" and I like how you did that.

Everything you said about happiness is explain thoroughly and I am very interested but i disagree. I do believe that everyone has some form of happiness and is able to get it within themselves.

I also like what you have said about whether we are free or not but i also believe that we are not free most of the time.

i really enjoy reading your blog and you got me thinking about my points and whether I'm wrong or not. I can't wait to read other blogs from you.

I like how you started your blog and agree with you that Banach also opened my mind to many things and made me think about alot. The same things you were thinking about and was questioning alot.

I strongly agree with you about how we are not free that there is always someone or something controlling us. I really like how you said "If we don't have a boss we will have our conscious which will control us into doing the right thing most of the time". I never really thought about that.

I also agree with what you've said about happiness and we get our happiness from our own selves. Basically in order to be happy we have independent and trust that our happiness comes from within.

I really enjoy reading your blog. Everything you said I agree with and also said it kind of differently. Can't wait to read more.

Freedom and Happiness

Banach mentions that our happiness comes from within ourselves. I personally I agree with that statement because I feel that we are our own happiness. That whatever we do and how we feel makes us happy. But also what can influence us with our happiness is our surrounding and our society. When we adapt to our surroundings we make the best of it. The society’s comfort can be an influence our happiness.
I feel that in order to be happy we have to actually do something and make a difference with different situations also. Like for an example, being depressed and or going through harsh times people tend to give up and not try to make the best of the situation or at least to what they feel can make them happy in any terms.
Also Banach talks about the “The Ethics of Absolute Freedom” and I personally feel like we are not free. At moments I feel like we are free but in the long run we aren’t. I believe that we are captured and trapped in our own mind and thoughts. Also I believe that our essence comes before our existence. And if that is true then to me that means that if we are an orb or some form of a spirit then we are trapped in our body.
Not only if what I believe that our essence comes before our existence might be true, in our society today we are not fully free. We have consequences if we were to commit a crime. Get can get punish by our own actions. So basically we aren’t fully free to do anything we want. But if we are fully free then our society wouldn’t have any type of consequence.
In my opinion I do agree with what Banach was saying about happiness and feel that we are not fully free. But that’s just my opinion.

Hw #3 Banach Pt 2

Living in this world there are so many unsolved answers. We keep asking questions but never really get answers. What makes us who we are? What makes us see what we see and do what we do and feel what we feel? How are we able to adapt to our societies? What separates us as being individuals?

When reading Banachs’ lecture he believe that “Essence Precedes Existence” which is basically saying that our spirit comes before who we become and before our appearance. And I agree with him. I believe that our spirit comes before our existence. I believe that we are orb/spirits trapped in a body for existence. I feel that once we exist we learn to become who we are as time goes by. We choose the way we live and how we live it.

Do you think that in our society everyone is fake in some ways? I personally feel that everyone is fake in our society because we change roles and how we act with certain people. We don't get the opportunity to act our self. With our parents we are respectful. With friends we are playful and is kind of disrespectful. And etc. changing how we are with different people is not being real. We are posers. Fake. Others identify us on how we act.

When it come to freedom I don’t think we are free at all. I believe that if our spirits comes before our existence then our spirits are trapped in our body which is not free. Our spirits is not free. “What is the point of total freedom? Wouldn’t it make the world worse?” –Julie. I feel that if we did have total freedom the world wouldn’t be safe at all. No authority would be involve, crime rate would increase and people would take advantage of it.

I enjoyed reading Banach’s lecture but there are so many opinions and unsolved questions. Life is a questionable thing.
